Striking and unusual George III and George IV silver-gilt dessert and fruit cutlery set, with multiple coloured agate handles for 12 people. The agate from which the handles are crafted has clearly been carefully selected so that each pair is different in colour to the others. The set of 12 pairs of agate-handled fruit knives and forks is completed by 12 hand-forged silver-gilt tablespoons and dessert spoons in the Hourglass pattern to make a varied and beautiful dinner table setting.
This early-19th-century dessert or fruit eating set is presented in a bespoke felt-lined wooden canteen with brass fittings and comprises:
12 knives with agate handles, by Sydenham William Peppin, London 1816
12 fruit forks with agate handles, by Richard Pearce, London 1827
12 silver-gilt hourglass pattern tablespoons, by Eley & Fearn, London 1817
12 silver-gilt hourglass pattern dessert spoons, by Eley & Fearn, London 1818
2 sugar sifter ladles, by Isaac Solomon, Dublin 1818
