Pair of tall, late-Victorian-era, antique silver candlesticks, embossed with neoclassical decorations reminiscent of silverware designs of the 1780s. The square bases are decorated with ovoid medallions and panelled columns, exhibiting swags, garlands supporting fruit baskets that give way to candleholders supported with cast dolphins, decorated with ribbons and swags, and surmounted by detachable nozzles with leaf pattern borders. The nozzles are removable for ease of cleaning.

This fine pair of substantial candlesticks, if used with 12" or 14" candles, will illuminate the table without the flame obstructing your view. They are in excellent and original condition.

Neoclassicism was born in Rome in the mid-18th century before spreading throughout Europe. It is the name given to Western movements in the arts and architecture that draw inspiration from the classical art and culture of Ancient Greece or Rome.
